Net neutrality

If you don't know much about this subject, I encourage you to read this article about it.  Congress has been mulling over the issue for some time and it should soon come to a vote.  We use the Internet everyday, and if providers have their way, they could ruin it for everyone.  Protect the freedom of access.

Here's an article about a guy arrested for an illegal grow operation in Columbia.  What I found interesting was the comments - 104 and counting, the overwhelming majority in favor of legalizing marijuana.

As we look back on the Aughts, I think we'll say it was the decade we lost touch.  We had information and we had a chance and we squandered it.  Moreover, it was the decade we gave away our freedom for a little security.  That's a pretty weak blanket for such a cost.  Check this post about how dissent has been relabeled as terrorism. 

I say good riddance - and welcome to a new decade.  It's the one where we'll find out what we're really made of.  I hope the phoenix rises.  Thanks for reading, and good luck this coming year.

Really excellent piece on vets and ten reasons why they should be able to get access to medical marijuana.  But, surprise, surprise, the VA won't even consider it.  I especially like the first page which points out all the negative aspects of drinking alcohol in comparison to smoking pot.  Why would we deny the one - natural - drug that is effective at curing their ills? It's good enough for our soldiers, and it should be good enough for us all.

California effort succeeds in putting legalization on the next ballot.  Here's another article that points out the disparity of the medicinal movement.  Funny - I think prohibition has always been about control and oppression.  Let freedom ring.

It's about freedom, it's about truth in government, it's about the efficient use of resources - it's about changing policy in the face of social inertia.  This article examines why we fail to act on climate change, and while a completely different subject, it shines a little light on the difficulty of changing public norms.  The voice of women is helping change the opinions on marijuana, and there are signs that the failed war on drugs is coming to a close.  Things do change, but will they change quickly enough?

George Will penned a column that ran in the CDT this weekend.  In it, he made the assertion that medical marijuana could be worse than full legalization.  I'd say legalization makes sense and Joshua Holland took him to task for the rest of his lapses in reason.

With the first drug cafe opening in Oregon, today is the day I remind you that the war on drugs is stupid.  But don't just take my word for it - right on cue, AlterNet delivers all of the reasons why we should end prohibition.

Veterans Day.  Thank you to all who have served.  We have a great country because so many have been willing to kick in and share the duty.  Today we honor you.

Interesting that on I day I frequently talk about embracing the truth and taking a stand for freedom, we get whistle blowers from the IEA.  It seems maybe the energy agency did comprehend peak oil and suppressed information as not to cause a panic.  Sit up and pay attention, folks. 

There has been others in government showing courage, however few.  Here is a well conceived defense of a British professor who let it slip that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol, and was shunned for it.  If you didn't catch that, here's another article that gives the top three reasons to legalize. 

This is an important moment - because once you know the facts, it becomes easier to do what's necessary.  In the information age, there are no dirty little secrets anymore.
