Sicko
Jennie rented "Sicko" for me this weekend and I was very impressed. I wanted to see it in the theater, but had been reluctant to rent it because I thought it was just going to be about a bunch of sick people who can't get insurance. That's certainly part of the story, but it's a lot more than that. Moore goes to several different countries and looks at their health care systems, and the results are surprising. People are quick to state that the U.S. has the best of everything and point out all the shortcomings of socialized medicine in places like Canada, but what he shows is that it's simply not true. My favorite part of the movie was the in-depth look at France, where people can get house calls from doctors, work shorter weeks with more vacation, have free daycare and education. But they have to be doing something wrong, right?
Once again, you can't believe the hype. There might be some other good ideas in the world. I think the people who are critical of Michael Moore haven't watched his movies. No matter what your opinion on him, he's a pretty good filmmaker. Check out "Sicko". Vive la France!
And here's the shocker . . . even Fox Views (News) gave it a favorable review. Who'da thunk it?

i liked the part at the very end when he talked about paying out the $12,000 to the guy who ran the anti-moore website so he could pay for his wife's med bills.

Indeed, a touching moment.
