Might as well face it...

We're addicted to oil, and withdrawals are going to suck.  I know some of you aren't on board with the idea of Peak Oil.  I'm sure you understand that oil is a finite resource, it's just hard to comprehend that something so... universal, could just run out some day. But it can, and it is.  Even still, we are having a hard time voluntarily changing our ways.  Our happy motoring, suburban lifestyles aren't the picture of perfect.  Our increased mobility surprisingly results in less physical activity, and of course the other pitfalls associated with burning fossil fuels, like rising air pollution, etc.  Meanwhile, the cities we left behind are still facing the problems that we tried to escape.  Instead of finding solutions, we think that if we just start over, we can get it right.

Oil is one dirty form of energy, and by refusing to find a new way or make changes, we're setting ourselves up for failure.  It's not just the spills, or the compromises we make for our pushers, but the void of alternatives for when things get really bad.  More than 200 died today in Nigeria, when the pipeline they fractured to siphon fuel exploded.  A new study says that Iran faces losing half their income in 15 years due to decreasing oil production.  OPEC agreed to drop production, but is that the only reason the Saudi's are reducing output?  The oil is running out, and if you think the Middle East is bleak now, imagine the desperation when their oil money dries up.  Or ours, when the tank says Empty.

That reminds me. I need to get my oil changed.

You're killing me! :-)
